How much does process service cost?

Routine process service is a flat $165, which includes three attempts at the address you provide. Payment is required in advance. Rush service starts at $25 on top of the routine rate. Serving an additional person at the same location adds $50 per additional affidavit. Larger matters with several occupants are quoted in writing in advance, at a fair negotiated rate.

How fast is routine service?

Routine service is completed in 48–72 hours, and the first attempt is usually made the same day or the next day. Rush and same-day service are available when a court deadline is tight.

What do you need from me to start a serve?

The documents to be served, the full name of the person or business, the best address you have, and any court deadline. A photograph or physical description helps but is not required. You can email the documents to [email protected] or call (202) 553-2209 to talk it through first.

What proof do I get after service?

You receive a completed affidavit of service for filing with the court, noting the date, time, place, and manner of service. If service is not completed, you get a clear report of every attempt — dates, times, and what was found — so you and your attorney can decide the next step.

What happens if the person is avoiding service or has moved?

Attempts are made at varied times, and every attempt is documented for the court. If the person has moved, a skip trace to locate a current address is $125. Additional field time for a hard-to-serve person can be arranged and is always quoted in writing in advance. Documented attempts also support a request to the court for alternative service, which your attorney can advise on.

Three plans: Essential — three routine serves a month, saving about 9% against the standard per-serve rate. Professional — five routine serves plus one rush serve, saving about 14%. Partner — eight routine serves, two rush serves, and one skip trace, saving about 21%.
